Rusted Relics: Examining the History of Antique Pop Stoppers

Soda Pop Stoppers: What Are They? Bottle stoppers, sometimes referred to as soda pop stoppers, were used to reseal carbonated drinks after they were opened. In order to keep the carbonation in the drink from escaping and prolong its fizz, these stoppers were made to fit tightly around a bottle’s neck.

These reusable stoppers, which were mainly made of metal or a metal and rubber blend, were a useful and environmentally responsible option in their day.

The Development of Drink Sealing – Prior to the invention of contemporary caps, soda pop stoppers were frequently seen. From the late 19th until the middle of the 20th century, they were extensively utilized, especially prior to the 1890s and the invention of the crown cork, also referred to as the bottle cap. Even though the crown cork finally took over as the industry standard for bottle closure, soda pop stoppers were still in use in homes and small enterprises, particularly for homemade fizzy drinks.
