Kayla Unbehaun was reunited with her custodial father after being located safe in North Carolina a few days prior to her surrender. Due to allegations of kidnapping and child abduction, Heather Unbehaun was wanted in Illinois and was apprehended in North Carolina.
According to Samantha Booth, a spokesman for the Asheville Police Department, she was freed on Tuesday after posting bail after being detained on a $250,000 bond at first.
On July 4, 2017, following a parade in South Elgin, Illinois, Kayla was kidnapped. Heather never came back from their camping trip, despite telling Ryan Iserka, Kayla’s father. Heather’s arrest warrant was upgraded to a felony. The breakthrough occurred when an Asheville resident reported the case to the police after recognizing Kayla from Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries.”
