That little vial contained more than just a regular perfume bottle; it was a perfume ampule, often known as perfume nips by some. The glamorous accessory for ladies in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, these little glass jewels provided a short-lived but elegant scent that made them appear and smell beautiful.
Glass ampoules, which were long and thin, held just enough scent in them to be used once or twice. Because they were sealed on both ends, they were supposed to be small and convenient to carry in a purse for a special occasion or a quick touch-up.
