The 91-year-old Star Trek icon William Shatner talked about his approaching death in a recent interview ahead of the release of his documentary, “You Can Call Me Bill.” Shatner made the documentary knowing he wouldn’t have much time left, but he did it nevertheless, hoping to keep in touch with his grandchildren after he passed away. Knowing that his time is limited, he expressed his wish to make sure his loved ones have something to remember him by. Shatner is the delighted grandfather of five grandchildren and has been married three times before.
The documentary by Alexandre O. Philippe will screen for the first time in the globe at the SXSW Film Festival in Texas. The documentary also features Shatner’s daughters, Leslie, Lisabeth, and Melanie. In a 2014 interview with The Guardian, Shatner talked about his grandchildren and how being a grandfather has brought him the most satisfaction in life. He said he spends time getting to know them, kissing and hugging them, and sharing some of the knowledge he’s gained over his incredible career.
After reconciling with Elizabeth Martin, his ex-wife, three years after their $2 million divorce, Shatner has recently made news. The couple opened up about their renewed interest when attending the Living Legends of Aviation Awards in Beverly Hills in January. Shatner said that Elizabeth embodies the spirit of life and compared their bond to “cinnamon.” Shatner and Elizabeth reached a divorce settlement in March 2020. Elizabeth obtained their holdings in Versailles, Kentucky, and Malibu Cove, California, along with a portion of her family’s farm in Indiana, while Shatner kept his ranch in Three Rivers, California, and his home in Studio City, California.
Shatner has had four marriages over his life. He was married to Gloria Rand from 1956 to 1969, and the two of them had three children together. He later married Marcy Lafferty in 1973, and the couple lived together until 1996. His third wife, Nerine Kidd Shatner, passed away in 1999. He married Elizabeth in 2001, two years later, and they were together until 2019 when they parted ways.
